Mable Emily Cox passed away on Sunday, July 14, 2002 after an extended illness. A native of Rome, GA, she had resided in Brentwood for thirty-four years. Emily graduated from Berry College in Rome, GA, where she taught before coming to Peabody College in Nashville for her Masters Degree. She resumed her teaching career, which encompassed thirty years, at Nashville's old Howard School and John Trotwood Moore Jr. High School.

She was an active and loyal member of Brentwood United Methodist Church and a member of the Church Choir. She touched the hearts of all who knew her. Family and friends will remember her as gentle and kind and always ready to lend a helping hand. Emily was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Grace Cox of Rome, GA.

Survivors include four sisters, Jo Anne Slagg, Rome, GA, Jacquelyn Inman, Kingston, TN, Glenda Johnson, Ocala, FL and Juanita Roberson, Rome, GA; eight nieces and nephews and thirteen great-nieces and nephews; and life friend, Jean Thomas with whom she resided.

She was an avid golfer and champion trap shooter. She had served as President of Tennessee Trapshooting Assn., and Nashville Gun Club where she was a twenty-five year member. Also, she was a member of Ladies Hermitage Assn. and Cheekwood Botanical Gardens.

Funeral services was conducted at Brentwood United Methodist Church, at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 17, 2002 with Dr. Howard Olds, Bishop Robert H. Spain and Dr. Branson Thurston officiating.

Honorary Pallbearers were members of the Robert I. Moore Sunday School Class. Active Pallbearers were her nephews and nieces. 

Memorials may be sent to Berry College, Mt Berry, GA, the American Cancer Society or Alive Hospice of Nashville. Interment at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
