From The 1964 Annual

Bobby

This cross is very hard to bear
And we can't understand
Why Bobby had to go so soon
Before he became a man.

His mother's heart is broken
His father bleeds inside
And his little brother Joe forces a smile
As his tears he tries to hide.

He had so many loyal friends
Who loved him dearly too
Big John stood by in time of need
And did all that he could do.

There were many girls he liked
But it was Linda that he loved
Such plans for the future they had made
But she stood by his mother in her grief
And watched all her castles fade.

He was a hero in every way
On his basketball team a star
He wanted the best that life could give
And he watched it from afar.

He has left such precious memories
We will treasure through the years
Till we meet beyoun the sunset
And God wipes away the tears.

From the 1964 Annual - Bobby's Grandmother

I met Bobby when he would come up to Milton in the summertime to stay with his grandmother, Nannie Pitts. I would come down to Milton from Virginia to spend the summer with my grandmother, Myrtle James (Milton's telephone operator). There was 4 years difference in Bobby's and my age but since we didn't meet any of the kids around there, we palled around together.  Bobby was killed in a car accident in north Nashville (where Metro Center is today) in May 1963. I believe that was the year and month. He would have graduated in 1964.

He is buried at Milton and I always try to put flowers on his grave when I come back there. Bobby lived at 721 3rd Ave., South and his phone # was ALpine 4-3821. The house he lived in has been torn down.

Bobby was a great childhood friend and I still miss him.
